>Todd,

I've had XP on my computer for 3 years and I've got a real slow dial-up connection.XP is an improvement on Windows earlier versions and it works good.It has alot of neat features.Dial up speed has nothing to do with it.---Jack

>Just out of curiosity, are you talking about a new computer with XP or upgrading the existing computer to XP? Be forewarned that the freeze/lockup problems might be hardware related. Have you checked to see if the various fans are running? I wouldn't consider upgrading anything less than a 1000 ghz processor with 512mb RAM to XP.

I have helped several people get set up with dial-up AOL (Barf!) on XP and found no problems specific to XP.

>Jerry,

I'm talking about a whole new computer minus the monitior and keybord, so I guess that would mean just the Modem/Tower.

I have a Penium II, which from what I understand really isn't/or is just barely adequate for XP.

1000ghz and 512mb RAM is all greek to me, so I'll go with it, as I'm condident that you wouldn't steer me wrong.

Thanks all,

>Any new computer will run Windows XP just fine and will perform MUCH better than your old Pentium II. Some of them don't come with dial-up MODEMs so watch out for that. They are cheap so having one installed won't cost much.

>I have XP Pro and it is very stable, a lot better sustem than 98, go for it, and my dial up connection is very slow, but it works well with XP.
