Face vise questions. *LINK*

>I'm installing this vise (not the economy model shown on the Woodcraft page) on a bench I'm building. Because of spacing issues (between the end cap and top cross member of the base) the only way to get the front jaw as wide as I want is to offset the front plate so that there will be 4" on the left side of the 10" plate, 8 inches on the right. I could reduce the length on the right, but would prefer not to. Any problems, e.g., racking from this approach? (Vise face will be 3+ inches thick hard maple.)
Also the installation instructions call for "net head screws" on the front plate and (underside) mounting plate. What the heck are net head screws?
Thanks
