Lee Valley honing guide - chisel issues
Jim Cosgrove in N. Virginia
>My Mk. II arrived yesterday. It's beautifully made and finely finished. However, I cannot get it to solidly grip my Two Cherries chisels. I've made sure that the chisel is centered and the bar is tighted down evenly. I've tried tightening down the screws hard and not so hard. Unfortunately, nothing will keep the chisel from pivoting.
Seems like there should be some kind of friction pad inside the honing guide clamp faces to keep this from happening. But there is not and (because the space is hollow) there does not appear to be an easy way to add something--like gluing in sandpaper.
Anyone else have this problem and come up with a fix? Looks like it will be great for plane irons, but I'm disappointed I can't make it work for my chisels.
