THe LN #7 and #8 are quite a bit more expensive then the Veritas version.
Their are some differences though.
The LN #8 weighs in at 10 pounds compared to 7 1/2 pounds for the Veritas. Also the proce on the LN #8 is $475US for Cherry.
The LN #7 weighs in at 8 1/4 pounds compared to 7 1/2 pounds for the Veritas and you were correct with the $400 price.
The LN 7.5 Low angle jointer is similat in weight to the Veritas at 7.38 pounds and the price on that one is $295US
SO really, we should probably compare the LN 7.5 at $295 to the Veritas jointer at $225.
NOt trying to pick on you or anything, Just stating the actual facts.
If your looking for a plane with momentum I think the LN #8 will let you power through difficult timbers easier then the lighter planes. On the other hand you will feel it in your arms after pushing a heavy plane like
