Thumb Planes

Doug Reynolds in Seattle

>In his video, James Kingshott shows a box of small Japanese "Thumb" or "Finger" planes. I have searched the usual catalogs and can find none. I am really interested in discovering the various profiles and dimensions of a complete set should I try to make my own. Have any suggestions?

>Dieter Schmid (http://www.fine-tools.com/jhob.htm) sells a nice set and lists their dimensions. Hida also sells a bunch of them. BTW, these aren't really tiny planes like you'd expect from their description, simply small, cute, and very useful.
