Draw knive accessory?

>Every once in a while I get the urge to use one of my draw knives that I picked up, however I always end up with the same issue of, how does one use a draw knife with out a shaving horse. Does anyone use a draw knife on this forum with out a shaving horse?
Is this like having a bench plane with out a workbench? How do you hold your stock?
This weekend I was doing a little cleanup of the yard, adding to the wood pile. Some of the wood was pretty dense tight grain and I decided to put it on the lathe. The dogwood, was a nice surprise. Very tight grain, which reminded me of boxwood, except that it was pink. I found some other dead dense wood (unknown species) was attacked by powder post beetles. I'm not keen on peeling off the pp beetle laden bark on my lathe for fear of some of the bugs getting into my wood shop.... Hence the idea of cleaning it up with a draw knife.. I figure if the beetles are in the wood, then they'll get scalped as the gouge runs over them. But the bark peeling off might leave them hole. What do you think?
