Old Plane

>I recently acquired an old 22 inch wooden plane with a saw style tote and a 2.5 inch Buck Brothers blade. It is stamped "W Hoffman" in barely readable letters. Does anyone know if "W Hoffman" was a plane maker? It is possible that it is an owner's mark but it is very neatly stamped.

>William F Hoffman 1856-87 made planes in NY City. 360 Broome st. it should have a N york under it or a marley behind it. I can scan the paragraph tomarrow if you want but that is the just of it. no indication of rarity

>Thanks for the information. I can indeed find the word "York" if I look for it hard enough. I have to look from the side with an jeweler's loupe. This looks like a well made plane although it is beat up just like all the old wooden planes.
