>ok, i must confess that while building my kitchen cabinets these past few weeks, i've come to realize the VALUE of hand tools - especially the block plane which i used to level the bottom and top edges of my router cut dovetail drawers as well as the simple bench chisel for helping to rabbet out the backs of my arched glass doors.
i've actually learned how to sharpen my hand tools which really is the KEY, isn't it? anyways, i was on EBAY... and i've since bought some vintage stanley planes (smoother and jack) and i'm currently looking on getting a jointer plane to complete the rapidly expanding FAMILY.
any recommendations on #7 vs #8 and corrugated sole or not? my only issue with the corrugated sole is that it would be a little bit more difficult to - dare i say it? - lap it to MIRROR perfection!
