spokeshave newbie - help
Steve Kubien
>Morning everyone,
I am just finishing off one of the LV wooden spokeshave kits and I have a couple of questions....
I built it pretty much to the recommendations. The brass plate is approx. 3/8" - 1/2" wide from the front of the body to the edge of the blade. On future shaves, I am guessing that making this distance smaller will make it easier to get into really tight curves? Do I need to worry about filing down the sides of the screw heads holding the plate? Will some epoxy help?
Second question is in regards to the finish. I've 2 coats of BLO on right now. After another coat or two, would you just wax it or is shellac a good option? I have heard that shellac is not a good thing for wooden planes. What about shaves?
Thanks for the help.

BTW, jatoba looks soooooo nice with BLO on it!
