Only a week to woodworking vacation, yeah

alan womack

>Counting the days to the first Vacation I've had away from my wife/kids in 13 years. And it's a woodworking vacation! Some of the tools are ready, need to finish epoxying the "toolbox" that they will travel in with me.

The toolbox is 11" x 24." inside dimension made of scrap beech with scavaged alder panels. Tenons join the stiles and rails together, and only one handcut dovetail survived the fitting, breaking apart process of a couple weeks ago (I had two, but broke the other last night not paying attention when fitting a birch ply panel to the bottom).

Today I epoxy the other end, start making totes to slide down inside and hopefully get a lid figured out for the saws.

>Calgary Canada with a fellow I meet buying hand planes from here in Spokane for the Rob Cosman Training the Hand course. One week of all hand tools.

Today I got my 60 1/2 with a hock blade sharpened up, wow what a difference. Never got around to really sharpening that one, just used it. Made a few .001 shavings this afternoon on the tool box top to bring rails flush with stiles while the epoxy is drying out.

>Hi Alan. Bring your bug spray. With all the rain we've had here, the Mosquitoes are ferocious.

I've attached a photo of how I fitted out the lid of my toolbox for saws...might give you some ideas.

ps. I didn't make this toolbox - SAIT sells them for the cost of the materials. The boxes are student projects. If a student chooses to not take the box home (I think they have to pay the cost of materials if they do), then the school sells them to the public. There's usually a few of these boxes available. Some of them are well made and some of them are obviously student projects. Might be a good way to take home some goodies.

>Good to know on the bugs..

Look at all the LN in that box!

Mine will basically be the same, except I am making a tray for the bottom layer tonight, just a quick and dirty birch ply. And then two more layers for the tools. The saw area will be perfect, have to remember that.

Scott, I have one photo of the box in the clamps, will take another with the tray in it tomorrow.

>Alan,

I took this course in May in Toronto and I know you will love it. It is quite intensive but thoroughly enjoyable.

Good luck.
