Need info on unusual #55 blade

Jim Reed @ Tallahassee

>I just acquired a very unusual blade in a set of #55 blades. It is a very large sash blade--looks like something for a door? It is shaped like the usual sash, only it is a whopping 2" wide with a 1/2" gullet. That is about twice the size of my other sash blades. It appears early and has no markings. My references on #55 blades mention #1 and #5, but not any #2, #3, or #4. Could it be one of these? Anyone know about this blade?

>Interesting. At first of the top of my head I thought it was a number 2 blade, one of the "special" cutters that could be bought seperatly or in a 4 boxed set, but the no.2 is only 1 1/2 in. wide. I don't think there was a no.3 or 4 but if so they would be smaller then a no.2,[and no.1] but bigger then a no.5 which was 1/4. Nothing I have shows that Stanley made a cutter as big as yours though I could be wrong. My guess is that it was maybe a craftsman made one made by sombody that needed a wider cutter....again not sure though.....Todd

>Thanks for your help. It came with a #55 set and really looks *factory* made. Or maybe by a vvveeeerrryy good craftsman.
