>Todd. I've asked Darrell about that plane (I think he calls it the "Bronze Birmingham Batwing" and sells it for $175.00. That price seems pretty reasonable to me & I don't know if anyone can make it for less. He also makes a Bronze 1505+1/2 and a Bronze 1507+1/2 Ladybug plane that is fascinating.

>Interesting that the tool was made with a "tote" - though I don't know many folks with fingers thin enough to fit into the opening. I guess they figured it needed that to look right; and it sure does look right.
Who can comment on the purpose of "T" rabbets? I know they were coachmaker's planes - was it just a peculiarity of the trade, or did the "T" shape permit some operation that a slab-sided shape would not have?

>Heres a Birmingham plane I picked up a few years back. A pretty neat and rather striking looking plane I think. This all cast iron design is pretty fragil and most got busted apparently though mine is in excellent condition with no damage. Figured it was well worth the $25 I gave for it , eh?.....Todd

>Hey there Slick, you holdin' out on me, or did you just not have that plane the last time I was up? $25?! YOU SUCK! Have you tried it? How's it work? Any comfort issues?
Funny that somebody is reproducing this "T" plane already. I was stumbling around in some Bookmarked sites and came across it, and said "Hey, that looks like it would easy to repro, and it looks soooooooo cool to boot". Once again, it goes goes to prove that I can come up with great $$$ making ideas, but alas also proves that I'm always a day late with them.
