Somewhat OT - cosmoline

>This is off topic because the tool I'm asking about is Cro-Magnon, not Neanderthal (a Shopsmith 10ER, in case you're curious - I'm considering powering it with a cage full of gerbils, but it will still be a power tool).
I picked this up a couple of years ago for $15 complete, and it's been sitting in the dirt-floored barn. I realized today when I saw one in an anteek shop (just reduced from $700 to $500 - how do those anteek guys price things, anyway? The same tool commonly goes for about $200 in the want ads) that I should do something to preserve the ways and other steel parts so that, when I do get the round tuits to refurbish it, they won't be rusted through.
What would be the best thing to use for this purpose?
