Plane suggestions

>I want to give hand planing a try aside from my lunchbox planer. I hear you guys always talking about the quiet and I want to give it a shot. After all the noise from the powered tools I want to try something that may be a bit more relaxing. This is suppose to be fun, right?
I am looking to smooth a workbench top made from hard maple so me thinks a jack plane or maybe a smoothing plane? Which ones are good? Stanley, Millers Falls, or...?
I am also looking for a good bullnose rabbet plane for cleaning up tenons and other tight corners. A Stanley #90 looks nice but the #75 seems less $$$.
Any and all suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
