Shapton Sharpening Question

>I have been using my shapton stones with good success. Arm hair shaving, no problem. But I haven't been able to get a mirror finish on the backs on my LN plane irons. I have been able to get the mirror finish on the back of my ashley isles chisels. I'm using a DMT extra-fine duosharp, followed by the Shapton 5000 and 8000's. Funny, i'd almost say that on the LN blades, the scratch marks from the 8000 stone are more pronounced than those of the 5000. I'm pretty confident that whatever is going on is not a flatness issue as i flaten the stones regularly using a flattening stone (which i purchased from the japan toolworker) that I in turn flattened on plate glass and sandpaper. Any ideas? Is it possible that in order to get a mirror finish the on the LN A2 treated irons i need to go to a higher grit stone? Also, I have tried sharpening using strokes in one direction only, and this doesn't seem to have made a big difference. thx. tony.
