Galootapalooza North

Darrell in Oakville

>We're hosting a gathering of handtool afflictionados on the weekend of August 6/7 2005. The venue is our summer cottage (camp) located on Bob's Lake, about 45 minutes drive north of Kingston Ontario (that's in Canada, eh!).

I've got a pole lathe (actually a bow lathe with a Mark I Bodger's Muddle mounted on it) and a shave horse, plus I might be able to set up a small forge (depends on Fire Bans & permits). Anyone have a small workbench they can bring with them? There's already one more lathe & shave horse coming with another Galoot, so we'll be having lots of fun with green wood.

There are a couple of potential rust-hunting grounds nearby that we can pillage, and I can arrange for a tour of the Maclachlan Woodworking Museum in Kingston (and maybe I can wrangle a tour of The Vault too; you guys ever see 3000 wooden planes in one room? Yes, I suppose some of you have...).

There has GOT to be someone out there interested in this kind of weirdness...

If anyone is interested in joining us, drop me a line and I'll include you in the informational emails.

>D... I am planning to be in the area... what a coincidence!

So... I may see you there!

BTW... have you any 'pull' with Loyalist Forest in Erinsville? It would be cool if they could offer a mill tour!

>I think you're talking about 500 miles, depending on where in Maine you live. If Darrell can provide the postal code for Bob's Lake, you should be able to get driving instructions and a map from MapQuest.

I used the postal code for Erinsville, K0K 2A0, which is a bit west of Bob's Lake to find a MapQuest route.

Hope you can make it.

>Conger,

Drop me a line as the date gets closer and we'll see if your schedule will fit.

I don't know about the mill, sorry. Maybe someone else on the board can help?

hmmm 2269 miles/3630 km

GolfSteve in Calgary

>Darrel, I'd be there, but 3630 km is a bit too far to drive. I spent some time around Perth a few years ago - it was beautiful and interesting for a Westerner like me - and would like to make it back to that area.

>I think the postal code is K0H-1T0 (RR #2 Godfrey). We don't have a mail box, but some of the neighbours do. It's probably quite a hike from Maine. The furthest I've driven for an oldtool event was 385 km, down to Ithaca.

>Hi Darrell,

Keep me in the loop. I cannot make firm committments at this point (heck, I don't even know what I'm having for lunch yet) but I hope to be involved.

Also, please note my change of email address. The 'work' one no longer works since 'unemployed-itis' has set in. Gotta admit, best sleep I've had in months.

>Darrell,

I might be able to drop by.

Is the area along Hwy. 7

I'm just south of Ottawa.

I was in the Inverary area at a cottage last July, nice area.

Keep me in the loop. I can't make a firm commitment now, should be able to do so in a month. I might be able to drive down one of the days.
