Follow-up to my Shepherd posting.

Don Thompson - Cutler Ridge, Florida

>For those who wish to know, Stephen Shepherd is indeed still alive and well and conducting business. I got a call from him a week ago, and received a copy of Shepherd's Compleat Early Nineteenth Century Woodworker yesterday.

I was at a car wash, listening to howling machinery and rap music when he called, but the gist of what I heard was that he had been very busy. It took two months, but the book is here.

As my mom used to say, "Patience is a Muchly Underrated Virtue."

>Thanks for the update Don. Glad to hear all is well and, it sounds, fairly lucrative. I am curious, what sort of stuff is in the book for a woodworker like me? I read about the different trades covered on Stephen's website but I could not find an actual index/table of contents.

Your help is appreciated.

>I don't think Stephen makes or sells planes. You're probably thinking of Shepherd Tool Co. planes, which are made by Doug Evans and Ben Knebel. (No affiliation, not even as a customer (sigh) ). Their website is at

>Steve,

I have not had time to get into it much (one of those weeks when about five things broke down around the house at the same time), but if you have any questions that the WC review does not answer, feel free to ask me.
