Tool Handles Found in Seaton's Chest - Dimensions?

Louis Bois

>When reading Adam's article on advanced chisel techniques, I was intrigued with the shape of the handles on those firmer chisels. The article revealed that the handle pattern was taken from chisels found in Benjamin Seaton's tool chest.

The handles in question seem to have an octogonal cross-section (basically an elongated cubic trapezoid with chamfered corners that create an unequal octogon...huh?!?).

My basic question, I guess, is this: What are the basic dimensions of these handles? Perhaps Adam or Chris would like to share some insight on these handles that seem to lend themselves so well the the techniques described in the article.

Thanks in advance for shedding any light on this matter.

Cheers,

Louis
