Help pick my birthday gift (longish)
Ian in Sydney
>It's a month or so till my birthday and my dad (bless him) has said "I don't know what to get you, here's $500, buy something for yourself."
He's 84 this year and lets me use his shop and borrow his tools (including his Record 405), so I have no trouble overlooking his slight want of tact.
But my delimna is, what should/could I get?
I currently have a goodly selection of hand tools, partly courtesy of past birthdays and Christmases.
I don't need any more chisels, unlike clamps I think you can have too many.
I already have (#3, #6) from Stanley and a shelf of LNs (#4 #5 #164 #62 #60R #140 #40 #112 #073 Butt mortise), plus one of Rob's excellent Medium Shoulders.
I'm well on my way down the slope so should I get another plane or two?
As for saws, the LN dovetail and carcass are really nice so maybe I should get one of LN's tenon saws.
Please make some suggestions.
PS Ebay as a source is probably out of the question it's a gift so I'm expected to get something new.
