LA Plane Question
Tony R.
>I am a relative beginner and have been using a LV la jack plane for most of my smoothing (with excellent results) I have been following some of the discussion anticipating the upcoming LV la heavy smooth plane. I have been using a #7 to flatten prior to smoothing with the la jack. My question is as follows: if my board is nicely flat after i finish with the 7, is there anything that would be gained at the smoothing stage in using a la smoother (the existing one or the forthcoming heavy one) relative to a la jack? i would think not and if anything the additional mass of the la jack might afford better results than either of the smoothers. but i figure i'm probably wrong and just don't understand why. otherwise stated, for a woodworker with a a no. 7 and a lv la jack, would there ever be an application for a lv la smoother? thanks for your help, tony.
