Somewhat OT - Hand tools at least *LINK*

Dave Louw, Bellevue, WA

>This is hilarious. Did you ever wonder what they do with all the knives, screwdrivers, sombreros, scissors, and other crazy stuff they confiscate at airports? Well in PA they now sell it 50 pounds at a time on eBay (see link.) Something about the pictures of the boxes full of scissors really gets to me (maybe it's picturing the bottom falling out of the box or someone tripping while carrying it.) The prices are really good but the shipping will kill you.

Dave.

>It appears that the Neanderthal's days are numbered. the NTSA is doing a great job of completing the transition of the U.S. from a Manufacturing Economy to a Service Economy.

When we were in kindergarten, we tried hard to avoid the "Runs with scissors" comment on our report cards. Obviously, our educational system has failed us, and lots of grown-ups have graduated to the "Flies with scissors' problem.

>My wife got a box of scissors confiscated from Chicago O'Hare. Not 50 pounds, though, more like 200 pair. After sorting, probably had more than 100 good ones and threw the rest away. Not bad considering she paid about $25 total, about the cost of 2 good pair of trim scissors.

Yup!

Todd Hughes

>Dang I thought maybe at least it was a no.2 that you saw! I was a little surprised that the prices for the stuff was going as high as it was esp. since you don't know what is in the boxes,[and most is probably junk].I imagine it is really a form of gambling more then intellgent buying and the bidders are just hoping there is somthing "big" in there...Might be for all i know but I bet guys go though it first to weed out the good stuff.I was actually thinking about making up some boxes like this to sell on ebay as i have so much flotsum and jetson around the place to get rid of......Todd

Your government at work

Derek

>My daughter just flew in for a visit last night. They confiscated her cigarette lighters! Nothing valuable or rare though.

Go figure. There's a basically ineffective effort to stop people from coming over the border illegally with automatic weapons but you can't fly in or around legally with nail clippers or a cigarette lighter.

Pointy sticks

Eric Hedberg

>Next thing you know they'll be looking for pointy sticks, but what about that fruit. Eh, you get someone with a pineapple lurking around the cabin and then they'll wish you had those nail clippers handy. Nasty things fruit you know. (By the way flammable fuels (lighters) and low cabin pressures make for airborne potato cannons. Air force nixed flammables in aircraft long ago.)
