Interresting picture. Do you have any more and at a higher resolution?
My Great-grandfather emigrated to Australia from Finland early in the 20th century. My Mother's family name before being married was Markkanen. The Fins are everywhere and in the least expected places!
My Great-grandfather was a carpenter and when the family moved here they went to Queensland and became sugar cane farmers. There are not too many places in the world that are less like Finland than Queensland :-)
Apparently one of the first things built after the house was a sauna. Why on earth anyone would want a sauna in Queensland is completely beyond me. The local climate is like a sauna in the summer anyway!
Unfortunately the language was never passed down further than my Grandfather. Nor have his tools been passed down.
Same in our family
