>Ernie, you do understand that this was an actual live auction? You could have bid by telephone, for instance. The normal eBay rules, etc., are changed. I run into these in the more traditional (and high priced!) antique areas on eBay.

>So can any one add a buyers premium to there listings? It just dosent seem right. I don't like buyers premiums. I think it is the responsability of the seller to pay for all selling fees. I try not to go to auctions like that and am allways sure to tell the seller and auctioneer that I figure if they have premiums I have to plan on bidding less on the items by twice the premium to make sure I don't get ripped. so if there is a 20% premium I will usualy bud 50% less than normal on an item. I won't run somthing up.

>Imagine anyone slow head enough to spend $170 on a rusted up mast axe thinking they were getting a French and Indian war axe is probably not to bright any way.I only read about half of the rules and never did see the 20% buyers preimium. Did see where they allow the consigner to bid on thier own stuff and if it goes for less then 60% of the low estiment they don't have to sell it....This about says it all eh?. I to do not like buyer preimiums, or Buyer penaltys as many call them around here. I am lucky as must local auctions don't charge them though some do.I once went to a gun auction where they were charging 20% buyers preimum, 25% commison fee and a $35 gun transfer fee.So if they sold a cheap shotgun for $100 the auction made $80!.......We set up at an antique show once and this same auctioner was there and came up with a fishing reel I had priced at $50 to buy.I told him with the 20% buyers premium I'M charging that would be $60!....He wasn't to amused....Todd
