>When you said you found a "combo" plane I was expecting to see a combination plow plane this is a transitional....Kind of hard to see in that little photo but looks like it might be a Birmingham plane.They had a lever on the side like yours.Again Not sure if that is what you have as hard to see much.Ones that i had were marked on the toe but on a rough plane like this might be hard to see. I've had a couple of thier transitionals over the years and have one of thier rather rare all iron planes in my collection which has the simular side lever. they also later made Stanley clones....interesting plane it looks like....Todd

>He said toe on the very front of the block that makes the plane body some time you need to wet you finger and wipe it across fast the high wood gets wet the stamp stays dry and you can read it. they stam them on the end grain of the wood.
