William Duffield, on the Cohansey

>You can often find them in the specialty fastener bins at your local ACE or True Value hardware store. These are not split nuts, but the more modern types. Another good source is to salvage them from beat up old saws found at flea markets and garage sales that are too pitted or kinked to be restored to use.

Dave (Arlington, VA)

>William is right: I tried four local hardware stores but eventually found one that carried them (only had three in stock). However, they were not called "saw nuts." They were called - are you ready for this - "sex bolts" - not sure if this will get past Ellis' software filters :-). Don't ask me why, I don't know (though I could make a guess). Also they are chrome plated - not brass - at least the ones I found.

Also as Dave Caudill says, L-N carries them but they are a bit pricey for my tastes.

All the best -

Dave

>Credit for this link should really go to Leif Hanson. If you haven't been to his site, http://www.norsewoodsmith.com/index.html, you should. He has an excellent how-to article on making dovetail saws.

Split nuts

Jorge Castaneda ~ Downeast Maine

>Dave,

Yes Lie-Nielsen sells their split nuts, I just restored a backsw with them, I don't remember the price but it was not much. The fellow from Adria saws, i cannot think his name at the moment, I bought from him in the past too. Sirochi?
