>I tried to see if the winning bidder had a pattern of overpaying, but it looks to be much the opposite. He recently has bought about 5 planes, never for more than about $6. He even bought a Union block plane for $0.99 from our Jim Reed.
Todd, what is the scoop?

>Scrub planes often had a rough life and are found with major finish loss and chipped or cracked totes & knobs. They were popular enough to come up often, but earlier Rule & Level logo planes are less common, especially in really good shape. Looks to me as if he wanted not just a #40 but that particular #40.

>I think Tom may have hit on something. At that price, I don't think he bought it for a user. Collectors have a different sense for some planes. He probably reconized this plane as something special.

>I don't think this was anything special though is an older example in a rather nice condition which is uncommon. I think it is more of a case of two guys going head to head and not wanting to loose out.....Always seems when a "little old Lady" sells a tool on ebay it goes for more too. Bet if she said she was a widow and it belonged to her dead husband it would have made $150.....Don't know...i have a hard time figuring out things when they make sence let alone when they don't!....todd
Thanks for the marketing tip..
