>During WWII Stanley produced planes with knobs and totes that were painted, rather than made of rosewood. Can anyone tell me the species of wood that was used (or mostly used) to make the painted handles? Thanks

>WWII era Stanleys didn't have painted handles. These painted handles were used on post war planes for only a year or so in the 1940s. WWII planes had stained hard wood handles which I think were of beech but am not sure.....Todd
