Wow, new LN offerings

Wow, new LN offerings

Frank D. in Montreal

>Got my email newsletter today. Among other things, a new medium shoulder plane (competition has a way of pushing progress...hehe) and a new thumb plane. And (yet) another Charlesworth video, this time on shooting, as well as some seminars (by Charlesworth and Christopher S.). Bench hardware too (anyone know who makes it for them?). Very interesting.

Thumb plane:

>Yeah, and the set of two Boggs' dvds is a pretty good deal, one of which (chairmaker's tools) addresses a question here the other day. I just couldn't resist, not that it's likely I'll ever make hickory bark tape. We don't even have hickories around here, although pecans may do, but it's so esoteric and interesting.

>I like that palm plane - I wonder why no one else has done a low-angle bevel-up version of this plane.

As soon as the Publisher's Clearing House van shows up out front...

Vise Hardware *LINK*

Don Thompson - Cutler Ridge, Florida

>I would guess that the vise hardware is what they are using in the Lie-Nielsen workbenches that they sell. Just a bigger order of hardware from Germany.

Heh. Nor is it likely that I'll ever be a patternmaker or do a major piece of stair making or shop fitting, but I have bought (old) reference material on all three :-)

>Same stuff as the other vendors; however, the 1.25" diameter shoulder vise screw is getting tougher to find, so good to see they have a source.

All I can say is ... FINALLY !!

John Snyder, Pocono's PA

>I've been waiting for years for LN to finally come out with a medium sized Record style shoulder plane. Not to be cynical, but I can't believe it took them that long - apparently I'm in the minority & like the medium size so much more than the oversize version they've been offering for years. Personally, I never liked my original Record 073 very much - I've got big paws & couldn't ever get comfortable with it. Anyways, I guess its time to get in line - shipping is 4-8 weeks. Nice job LN - it'll be worth the wait !!

By "same" Do you mean identical (as opposed to similar) ?

>I spent some time looking at the bench at the Baltimore and Chantilly shows, and hit the Springfield WC store on the way home. Looked to me as though the high-end German hardware at WC was identical to the stuff used on the LN bench. The economy bench hardware at WC appears to be Chinese.

Thanks - that's what I thought you meant, but I wanted to be sure.

>Yes, its a pity they let LV beat them to it. Still should be a very good plane and well worth the wait.
