Construction basics/making drawer video

>Can someone simplify

for me when I should use a panel type constuction versus using solid construction. In other words, when does wood movement determine the best constuction method. Or, why can a table top be solid, but a door cannot. Seems to me that a solid door is like a table top so why does the door have to allow for expansion and shrinkage but not the top? Allow for the ignorance of a newbie.

Second question, I am interested in the Franz Klaus vdeo re making a drawer. I have a video in which he dovetails a drawer and explains dovetailing(15 min explanation). Is there that much more in the video devoted entirely to drawers? Also, there is a Klingshott(sp.?) video on planeing. Is that recommended. If there are other difference making videos, please advise.

Thanks,

ChiChi

>You're not going to find all that many plywood users among hand tool types, so my attitude is that all furniture type construction should be solid wood, for which you allow for wood movement. With a door you can go solid or ply, depending on what you want/need.

In the Klausz video he shows his entire drawer making process, including stuff like story boards and how they're used in measuring drawer fronts. It's very good.

Kingshott made two videos on planing, very good, but I don't think anyone still carries them.

Klausz - exhausted!

CONGER - The Irish diaspora in Munich

He is FAST! He is a NO NONSENSE craftsman.

This is an excellent video, and indeed quite well made compared to many other WW videos.

doors vs tables

>Hi Y'all,

Chichi, if table tops had to consistently be placed into an exact sized hole there would be more of a tendency to constrict their seasonal movement.

>Klingshots plane video is considered a classic, butI learned a LOT MORE from David Charlesworths DVDs from Lie Nielson.

Klingshot will go on and on about his english smoothers that you will never afford to buy. David uses a stock stanley (HIGHLY FETTLED) to blow your mind.

>Get the Kingshott videos you'll learn a lot and I think they're very entertaining. He says stuff like "about as straight as a donkey piddling in the wind". These videos are gold. I wish I had a teacher as knowledgable and entertaining as Kingshott.
