D-8: Okay, what am I doing wrong?

>Hi All -
I feel pretty silly about this.
I took the handle off a D-8 I found at an estate sale a couple weeks ago so I could clean up the handle, take the surface rust off the blade and pop the etch. I've done this before.
Okay. Handle clean. Saw nuts clean. Blade clean. Reassemble. How hard can it be? Just five saw nuts.... but I can't get the holes in the blade and the handle to line up. If the bottom three holes line up, the top two won't. If the top three line up, the bottom two won't. All of the saw nuts fit in the holes in the blade (without the handle) just fine, and, likewise, they all fit in the handle just fine (without the blade).
This is nuts. What's going on here? If you think I might be mixing up parts, I don't think so. I haven't had any other saws apart in my shop for four months. Besides I kept all these things together.
Anyone have any thoughts? If so, I'd love to hear them.
Regards -
Dave
