Slide Rules

>Figure I would post this on the Neander side of the house. I've always had a facination with Slide Rules, but Being only 31 I went though school after the Slide Rule Era. I never had one until recently when I accquired one at an antique shop and for the last week or so I have been staring at it and searching websites trying to figure out how to use it. Reading a introduction to Slide Rules on a website I found discusses how adding and subtracting fractions is easy after learning to use a slide rule (something I never had any need of until I got into high dollar wood mulching) I'm hoping in the process of learning the slide rule I will be better at the math I use for wood working.
Does anyone out there still use a slide rule on a regular basis? Is this pointless and I should just stick to a Calculator/Computer? I'm a Network Engineer in a Datacenter and people have been giving me a almost disguested look all day for even having a Slide Rule. And the older guys in the office are trying to hide laughs as I try to figure this darn thing out. I feel like I'm taking 2 steps back in the hopes of making it a little farther forward.
