Best place to buy professional shaptons?

>Want to make the switch over the next few months to Shapton stones from SS.
I want to start on the high end, and I have a diasharp diamond plate now in the course end to flatten the stones and clean up plane blades.
www.knifeoutlet.com had a great price, but only has 220 grit in stock.
Sources guys? Google doesn't bring up much.

I don't think you're going to find them anywhere at a better price.(Unless maybe they're being sold in the UK where you could save on shipping)

I believe he tends to prefer oil stones over Shaptions for many situations. So a call to Joel might provide an interesting educational discussion on the differences. And he'll still sell the Shaptons if that's what a person decides.

Quality stones of any type are not cheap. The grits one would use in a woodshop are around what I thought they would cost (although, IMHO, it's crazy to spend that much on a stone which wears away every time you use it). Then I get to the bottom of the page and see their 30,000 grit stone (who would need something like that?). 635 bucks. 489 for their special "lapping plate".
They are out of their minds.

>A friend and I purchased 4 Shaptons each about 2 years ago from that store. I doubt it would have been possible had my friend not had a friend in Tokyo that handled the transaction. The store did not accept credit cards. A bank transfer had to be made to the store from the guy in Tokyo for payment. The stones were sent to him, then he shipped them to us. Despite the fees associated with the bank transfer and the approximate $100 to have the stones shipped from Japan, we still saved about $100 each on four stones. As my bad luck would have it, we received an extra 2000 grit rather than the 8000 ordered. Since my friend organized the purchase, I agreed to take the extra 2000 minus the 8000 I ordered. I had no problem selling it for my cost though.
