Witherby Chisel Gloat

Rossmoor Galoot

>I teach adult Sunday School at my church. Naturally, in making applications, I sometimes talk about my avocation for woodworking with hand tools. Today, after class, one of my students approached me and said his father was a cabintetmaker. He then said he had some old chisels that were his dad's and he wanted to drop by to give them to me.

This afternoon he gave me a set of nine socket chisels stamped "TH Witherby, Warranteed" in a box (making them Winstead's, I believe). The sizes are 2", 1-3/4", 7/8", 3/4", 5/8", 1/2", 3/8", 1/4", and 1/8". They all show no pitting, very little rust and are close to original length. Seven have complete handles including the leather caps. Two of the shorter ones have broken handles. I'll turn new handles for these two.

All in all it was a good afternoon.

>Think you just won the chisel lottery, iam no expert but if the stamp says what you say then they are orginal.

The 4 i have are so good i only use them for special things.

See if you can post a pic or two, they are really cool tools.

Dennis, who would love to have full set.
