Handsaw retoother question

I posted yesterday about acquiring an automatic handsaw retoother. The retoother came with two guides for clamping saw blades to, one curved, one straight. Is the straight for crosscut and the curved for rip teeth?
The instruction manual for the machine is a single type written page and does not mention a curved guide. No safety warnings either. My best guess from the advertising flyer that was with the instructions is that the machine dates to the late 40's or early 50s.
As found the retoother was set up for 8 rip tpi, with the straight guide.
The machine came complete with all of the tooling to do from 4 tpi to 10 tpi.
I've been to the old woodworking machines web site and didn't find any information on it or its manufacturer.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
