Jewelry Box Ideas Needed

David Miller from Iowa

>Need some plans/ideas/inserts/hardware for a jewelry box. The Rockler jewelry box inserts seem OK but I'm looking for a bit more variety. Thinking of a flip open top and maybe three drawers in perhaps a 18"Wx12"Dx12" cabinet.

Wedding day gift to my future wife and I need to get cranking. Any suggestions? Photos of completed projects? I can make the box no problem, but I need some design ideas and have no absolutely no idea how to partition it. One drawer for necklaces, another for earings? Married guys (and kind women who lurk), help me out. Yes, I looked at her current set up and all I can say is she has a lot of jewelry and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to her collection (she said the same thing about my planes).

Goes without saying that it will be mostly Neanderthal construction, but forgive me if I thickness some thin stock on my brother's planer.

Thanks, David

>David,

When my wife needed some jewelry storage, we went for stacking boxes (easy to rearrange/reorder/add more later) like you see in the store. I used simple construction and lined the bottom with velvet. I made drop in dividers that broke the boxes into compartments. Then I topped it off with a pretty piece of burl. There are lots of good ideas out there, but what I learned is that drawers need compartments for organization and its important to be able to lay everything out and see it when choosing the right jewelry. Good luck! Eric

>Hi David,

I polled the 'other side' a few weeks ago, looking for plans for a jewelry chest ( see http://www.woodcentral.com/cgi-bin/messages.pl?read=207317 ).

There were over 240 views... and no response!

Looks like most people use tupperware!

PS... am still looking, and am interested to see what results you get! -g-
