bench end vise

I think I have a lead on a Columbian vice. What I want to know is there any reason I can't make a long wood insert with two dog holes attached the end vice and use it with the two rows of dog holes on the top? I see the problem with racking if I am just using one side but that is not my concern.
Is there another unforseen problem here? If so I will just use one row then.
