Good Weekend in the Shop

Kevin French, Antrim NH

>I spent the weekend finishing my bench. The Hanging Tool Storage is from the Apr05 FWW. I bought a couple magnet bars from LV, they work great, just watch out if you buy any the ends are weaker than the center. I lost an old #4 user.

I removed one side of the bulletin board that was in my old shop and put in some pegboard.

Thanks

Steve Kubien

>Thanks for sharing Kevin but something just doesn't seem right. Are those Marples chisels hanging on a magnet bar over your bench? That would just scare the heck outta me! One wrong move with a tall work in progress or longer board and...

Now for those of us with metal plates in our craniums....

Nice

David Miller from Iowa

>Very nice Kevin.

However, be careful with those chisels though. I used to keep mine high up on a magnet just like that until I knocked one off with a board upon which I was working. Instinctively tried to catch it - severed tendon and nerve in my thumb - permanent mobility loss and $1000 medical bills after insurance. I still keep the chisels on a magnet, but it is down lower so if they fall they go behind the bench (I put a board back there to save them from the concrete floor).

Another drawback to magnets

Bob Hackett

>They tend to magnetize the tools stuck to them.

Picture all the swarf made during sharpening those chisels sticking to them after you`re done.

Try replacing the chisels with screwdrivers,at least having the screws sticking to the tips wiil be more productive.

You`re scaring me here Kevin.

>I thought about sharpe edges, overhead. The "TIPS" are on the Chisels, and I found a screwdriver magnetizer/demagnetizer today at the Hardaware store today. So when I sharpen I can demagnetize them before starting.
