Rabbet plane help(old woodie)
Bob Hackett
>I picked up an old skewed wood rabbet plane over the weekend.Width is 2 1/4" length is 17 1/2",3 1/2" tall body.Offset longhorn tote, beech body,J Clough stamped on the iron. The maker`s mark on the toe is A PALMER.It had scoring irons(too big to be called nickers)1/2" wide by 1/4" thick that were held by wedges on either side.No fence or any way to attach one.
What I`m looking for is any info on this beautiful beast, especially pics on how the scoring irons and wedges were set up and what the missing wedges looked like.If this is not a valuable piece I would like to put it back to work.
I saw another unmarked one like it in an antique shop but it too was missing side irons and wedges. The tag for thiers said $95.Thier moulding planes were all going for $45 or better, even the ones without irons so I didn`t put much stock in the value they placed on it.
