Depth stop for Record #044??

Dave Anderson Chester, NH

>Anyone have any leads for a depth stop for a Record 044 plow plane? I picked one up last weekend in really great condition with all of the blades, fence, etc. All that's missing is the depth stop and I don't want to have to cobble one together in the machine shop at work on a weekend.

That, and the lever cap, commonly go missing.

Your best bet is either an Englih tool dealer, although they'll want a profit on their time and shipping (even if the depth stop is cheap).

Alternatively, you might scavenge a depth from a cheap beater #04, #043, or #044. It's the same part in all cases. Of course, none of these are common tools in the USA, but you might get lucky.

I struggled to find a depth stop for a #044 in similar condition to your own. In the end I gave up and used one from a Stanley #45. The diameter of the #45 is fractionally wider, so I enlarged (drilled out) the #044 to fit.
