Makers mark?

Mike G.

>I just bought a side bead today...well I bought a couple of other items today, too, but was curious if anyone has heard of this maker. On the front and rear of the plane it's stamped J B Stickney. Has a beechwood body and boxwood boxing let into the body with the profile. Also there's the size...3/8 on the rear of the plane. Thanks.

Owner's stamp?

Ed Mulligan, Cape Cod

>Mike -

Owners might stamp a plane in several places.

Makers of wooden molding planes nearly always marked their products only on the plane toe. Look closely at the toe of your example. Sometimes a faint maker's mark can be seen if you moisten the wood and hold it so light hits it at a low angle. Sunlight is best for this.
