This Ain't a Real Winter *PICS*

William Duffield, on the Cohansey

>On the Cohansey, we only got eight inches of snow, and it's forecast to only go down to eight degrees Farenheit tonight, and I had us dug out by midafternoon.

Here, Chief of Security is watching out for ice bears while I shovel.

The Loxahatchee Toolworks Frogpond is not faring so well, but at least the pump is keeping a small space (lower left corner) clear enough to provide water for the birds and oxygen for the fish and frogs. The Pondbird copper fountain/sculpture froze and burst it's pipes and will need some repairs, come Spring, so I disconnected it.

Today, the sun came out, putting a little color back into the landscape. The pitcher pump fountain froze up, too. Blowing and drifting snow forecast for tonight, so I may be digging again before I go to work tomorrow.

So far, the garden lantern is holding its own against the glaciation. I suspect it's all due to global warming.

I guess I should be glad I'm not in Maine or Lake Wobegon, but somehow, I count my blessings that I'm not living in Florida anymore. Eat your heart out, Todd O.

>Actually it ain't so bad here.4 deg right now and about 16" or so of snow cover from last night's storm.I was down the road getting my Sunday funnies by 8:30 this morning.I'm sure glad we finally got a blanket over everything.Last year the lack of snow caused the frost to drive deep, freezing water lines and raising heating bills.

Todd,I know you'll be back here soon enough,just taking a long vacation.---Jack

48 degrees and foggy

>of course, since the house isn't insulated, it takes half the day to get up to a decent temp inside - we went to the movies (movie recommendation: Don Cheadle is INCREDIBLE in "Hotel Rwanda"; just be prepared to be speechless when you walk out).

Re: Cold Snap

Pam Niedermayer - Austin, TX

>Well, yesterday at noon it turned cold here, too, got down to about 45 during the day today; so the Pinehill Security Force didn't get their regular trip to the leash free park at Bull Creek this weekend. However, tomorrow it's supposed to get back to 70, almost 80 on Tuesday.

I hope to never again see snow, ice, and truly cold weather. Twenty years of it in New England was quite enough for one life. When those storms turn back off the ocean and become noreasters, it can be devastating. Hope everyone in the northeast comes through this OK.

William Duffield, on the Cohansey

>Sorry, Todd. Please note that I'm only about two thirds of the way from your current situation to Maine. I figure "close" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Unlike on the St. Johns, we don't have garbage trucks on the Cohansey with "Snow Hauled Free" painted on the side. Come to think of it, we don't have garbage trucks.

>We got about 12" (maybe 15") here, but we still haven't hit above 0.

Shoveling isn't bad, the snow's so light and fluffy.

One of my dogs will spend all his time chasing my shovel, so he's no longer allowed to help.

Let the other dogs beat a path for me to make it easier. At least they only chase the thrown snow and not the actual shovel.

Freezing in the sub-Tropics

Don Thompson - Cutler Ridge, Florida

>That blob of cold air you northern folks have been experiencing arrived down here in SoFla last night. It was 47F. here this AM. (Brrr!) My entire casual wardrobe consists of shorts and tee shirts. I don't know how to deal with this!

Honey, break out some hot buttered rum!
