>Some time last year I posted pics of a clock case I built for a customer.This was a reproduction of a Seth Thomas regulator wall clock.The customer had an old movement with no case. After finishing it I had the completed clock on my wall for about a week. When I delivered it I mentioned how much I liked it. It's a real pretty clock.

A few weeks ago this customer called me with a surprise.He'd sent away for a reproduction of that same movement so I could build one for myself and if I wanted it I could come over and get it.

So I guess I gotta build another case.The first one was cherry. I have to decide whether to make this one with cherry also or maybe use walnut or some other wood.---Jack

I am a carpenter by trade.Also a handyman/Jack -of-all-trades.I work around my neighborhood mostly helping people keep up their old houses.I have a fairly large woodworking shop in my house where I work with both hand and power tools. At the moment I'm focusing on Windsor chairs building.I will build most anything if needed. I'm always learning,adapting,changing trying to broaden my woodworking skills.I work mostly with hand tools in my shop but will use power if it is a better way to get the desired result. My wife,Donna,and I live in the woods of Maine with our dogs,cats,and birds. We have 5 grown kids and six grandchildren. Woodcentral has been central to my growth as a woodworker. I pass through this place every day.

Merritt's Antiques and Clocks (not to be confused with Mary Merritt's Doll Museum and Museum of Childhood) is like antique heaven. It's unreal. Huge place, stacked end-to-end with antiques. Whole wings dedicated to chairs, blanket chests, armoires. Lots of PA Dutch stuff. Really neat.

The clock stuff's in another building. They have everything you could ever hope to see. Old, new, parts - everything. If'n you're curious, I'll try to get up that way soon and shoot some pictures. It's about 2 miles from my house.

They are OK to deal with, but there's not a lot of handholding for a new clockmaker there...

Recommendations on a good book, anyone?
