What would you do with a broken screwdriver?

David Hay @ Denver

>At one point I was using one of my flat bladed screwdrivers to pry something (I know, I know... ;) and broke it off just above the flat head. I was curious what you'd do with the screwdriver? In other words, what shape would it be worth grinding the round shaft into?

The screwdriver was nothing special, but it seems a shame to throw it away.

Thanks!

David

Cabinet screwdriver

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>If you think it's worth the time and it's the right size, grind a new flat on it, and you've got a cabinet screwdriver, capable of following a slotted screw into its counterbore without dinging up the wood. I suppose you could do the same thing for a Phillips head, but it would be a lot of work.

Otherwise, toss it in your junk box until inspiration strikes.

>I have a drawer full of worn out and broken screwdrivers. The best ones have already been cleaned up and are in use.Occasionally I'll throw a few away that are obvious junk but the drawer is still full.I think they reproduce.

You could regrind it into a usable screwdriver, make an awl or just use the handle on something(if it's removable)otherwise, toss it.---Jack

That is downright cruel, Rob

>not all of us have either a MIG or the skill to use it even if we do.

Those are PRETTY tools. You can be my secret Santa any time you want. Heck, you can be my secret Easter bunny.
