For you New Englanders....

Dave Anderson Chester, NH

>I've posted a notice on the Events board about an upcoming event of interest. It's free and more info will be added as the details firm up over the next month.

Hope you can set the date aside. Rarely will you get the chance to see demos by this many great woodworkers in one location and without any fee.

>Does the NH Guild admit members from other states? Or maybe not all the exhibitors are members?

Anyhow, sounds like fun, might see yawl there assuming I can find another reason or two to be in New England.

>"The event is FREE and open to all members of any woodworking club or guild in New England."

Dave, that is a quote from your post on the events board. Does this mean you have to belong to some kind of club or guild to attend?---Jack

Pam, Drop by if you're in the area, yawl are welcome.

Jack, You are a member of a group, Woodcentral!!

The basic requirement for admittance folks is that you are upright and breathing. the breathing part is optional.

>I guess I'm just in the newer part!

I will say that one of New England's better known sports figures hails from Ottawa, Kansas. Any guesses?

Former QB of the Patriots. Bill Grogan's son...I think his name was Steve?

You've moved Ottawa to Kansas?

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA, the rain's here

>Boy, all yawl have rearranged things a LOT since I lived back there. And people say we Californians are shaky.

Where's Montreal now? And did you send Toledo back to Spain (and how does Coop like the Spanish flea markets)?

Re: Ottawa to Kansas? Yep!

>Bill,

I understood the Canadians wanted to move south towards warmer weather. Never mind the fact that the other night it was colder here than in Siberia! :)

I went to Ottawa University (est.1865) which has a student body of about 500 at the traditional campus. (There are continuing ed campuses in KC, Milwaukee, Phoenix, as well as in the orient.) The college and town were named after the Ottawa Indian tribe. When telling people I attend(ed) Ottawa University they ask "Oh are you Canadian?" Sometimes it was easier to just say yes.

Go Braves!!!

>Interesting!

There is a huge writeup on Ottawa,Kansas in the Ottawa Citizen today. This is part of a series

on the origins of the name Ottawa, the Ottawa indians, how the name Ottawa propagated

as far south as Kansas, etc...

It seems like it is our sister city, very much information on it's origins, including Ottawa University and the youngish mayor..

>Youngish? I can't remember his name, but either about the time I graduated ('94) or just after an OU student (yep still in classes) who was about 20 was elected mayor. I was thinking he only served 1 term. Does your paper say who the current mayor is?

As for OU I really miss it there. I just learned one of the (in)famous profs Dr. Averyt has Lou Gehrig's disease. He's been great for OU, never afraid to speak out for what's best for the university. Quite a character tho. After like 35 years he finally retired and started adjunting. The entire time he always rented a house. When my accounting prof asked "Ronnie why don't you buy a house?" Averyt would reply in his Texas accent "Well if you do that people are gona think you'll stick around!"
