Your plane was manufactured by Metallic Plane Company of Auburn, New York. They are uncommon but not what I would call rare. Metallic Plane Company changed the bench planes they made as "improvements" were patented. There are at least three main types that they made.
The most interesting iteration of their bench planes is the style that has three adjustment levers. One is for lateral adjustment, one is for depth adjustment and the last allows the iron to pivot up and down which allows for some adjustment of the frog angle. These planes also have an adjustable mouth. There may be some information about them in the Badger Pond archives on this site. Steven Thomas was a proponent of Metallic Plane Company planes and wrote eloquently about them on several different threads.
Of the different style of bench planes made by Metallic Plane Company, the 3 lever style is the most desirable, although the price listed on the linked website below is a bit optomistic in my opinion. They also made fillister plane that is much more valuable.
I'd say gently clean the plane, and try it out.
