The 45's I've seen on E-bay seem to go in the $100.00 range. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the current Stanley crop of ploughs.

>either a 12-250 or a 13-250. I don't know because it is packed up. I bought it new about five years ago. The bright chrome dictates eye protection of some sort and the plastic tote gives me a polyester rash, but by gosh, it works better than any #45 I have ever used. In spite of its appearance, it is one of Stanley's best (but not in the same league as the #46).

Per WC policy, I have no current financial interest in Stanley works, other than purchasing products placed in the stream of commerce years before, for sometimes unbelievable prices, and spending exorbitant amounts of time and energy (with a high degree of cussing and vulgarity thrown in) attempting to get aforesaid items to function in a manner I now believe they were never designed to.

Because of its youth and plastic content it goes very cheap at auctions round my way.

Thus presenting a conundrum to the oldtool enthusiast :-)

Hijack: bullnose plane

The irons are fairly soft, but the work just fine once you learn not to look directly at them in strong light without eye protection (nod to Jim above). They are cheaper than any new alternative I know of, but I hardly touch them anymore after making a pair of rosewood-soled wooden rabbits and getting better with a chisel.

Don't worry, Bill--you can still get the real thing, listed on the previous page of the site as the "12-075." So how many of these things do you have now, and where is the type study? :)

The 90J bullnose about which I was asking is pictured below - not the common No. 90. I've liked its shape since I first saw it, but am not sure that's reason enough to lust after one.
