>Building my first hand plane. The plane I made is made of 1/4in brass for the sides, and hard maple infill and sole. The chip breaker and blade are from a old stanley plane. The bed angle is set at 60 degrees.

>Thanks Scott, The plane performs well but still needs a little fine tuning. I have another blank cut out, and I am getting ready to build another, but the next will have a steel sole.

Interesting ergonomic rear infill. Do you have any pix of the parts before assembly?

>Don,the sole is made of maple the same as the infill. I just laminated the brass to the infill block. I did use a peice of 1/4 in thick wenge for the toe. The next plane I plan to build will have a steel sole."I do not have pictures of the parts before assembly.

I'm wondering why you are thinking of moving to a steel sole? I rather like the idea of wooden sole... Would there be a way to make the front infill adjustable to deal with wear..? Or a replaceable mouth..?
Just wondering! I'm sure it'll rock w/ a steel sole, too.
