>Hello all,

I just completed rehabing a stanley #2 that was my granfathers. I used the typing plane at rexmill.com and determined it to be a type 15. It was in pretty bad shape with rust, but it was not bad and had not eaten into the metal that bad. I am going to post pics of the before and after as soon as SWMBO comes back with my digital camera. The blade is sharp and this baby is ready to work, but I doubt it will ever come out of my display case for antique tools.

This was a fun project, I have never tried to do anything like this before and I read about every article I could about the subject.

I am going to tackle a type 10 bailey #5 next, this thing needs some major work.

>Looking forward to the pics Mike. Got mixed feelings about a tool with family connections sitting in a display case. If nothing else I'd be inclined to use it every so often just because it was Grandfathers. Tough Call sometimes eh?

>I think I would use it ever now and then Especialu if you make a item for a family member that was related to him also. You arn't going to hurt it using it foe what it was made for. Just think how nice it would be to recieve somthing from you made with Grandpas or great grandpas plane and tools.

>You are both correct. It almost seems like a waste to let it sit in the case. My father used the plane about 15 years ago or so when we were doing major renovation work on our shore house. I think the salt water in the air caused the rust.

Maybe I will take it out of the case every now and again to smooth some areas on some projects. It would be cool to have many generations of Mike-in-Havertown men use the same tool for something.

Right now it is sitting in my display case with some other memories from my other grandfather (a cold war russian spy camera). Right now I am just enjoying the memories.
