>Over the holidays we used my wife's mom's mahogany dining table as a buffet. We thought we had adequate padding under all of the dishes but a white, chaulky spot about 1" x 3" developed under one of the hot dishes. I'm not sure of the finish but it may be shellac (about 60 years old)and is is slightly crazed. I know her mom used stoff like Formby's and pledge on it. Is the white spot just the wax? How do I go about "repairing" this mess.

Thanks for any advice; my wife will be well pleased!

>This has happened to me. I found a furniture cream made just for this (although I can't find it easlily now)it worked pretty well. Search the internet and you may find it - it was white and thick and came in a 6 oz squeeze bottle - specifically mentioned repairing your problem. Good luck.

>I wish you the best in removing the spot, but I have a teak table that a hot pizza caused a white spot. In five years of searching for the correct product--no joy. Finishing books say that there may be some white spots where the only alternative is to strip and stain--essentially starting from scratch. I hope that you will have better success.
