? on a Stanley 5 1/4

Clay C in Miami

>Will the iron/lever cap/lever cap screw from a Stanley #3 plane fit a #5 1/4? If they do fit, are they identical?

(I checked the archives, and B&G, but couldn't figure out a search request here that worked.)

Thanks,

Clay

Blade will fit, unsure on lever cap

Andrew F in Australia

>Clay,

The distance between the hole for the lever cap retaining screw and the bottom of the lever cap may be different in a #3 and #5 1/4

The blade, however, is interchangeable.

If you've got a No3 available, try a test fit of the lever cap.

Cheers,

Andrew

>In my experance the blade, frog, and lever cap are the same on both planes. Don't know if I remember right but think the tote is the same as well and that the 5 1/4 tote like the no.3 is the type that doesn't have the screw in the front......Todd
